Ann of Swansea – “The Lady With the Super Pen!”

Hey there, Time Travellers!

Welcome to my trail! You’ve got two ways to join me: Read along with the story below… Or hit play and let me take you on the adventure myself!

Grab your trail sheet, keep your eyes peeled for clues, and let’s go exploring!

Ann of Swansea – “The Lady With the Super Pen!”

WHOOSH!

Whoaaaah… That time jump made my hair go fuzzy! All this zooming around is making me super thirsty. Got a drink? Now’s a perfect time to take a big sip. Go on — sluuurp! 🥤

Ahhh… much better. Only two more stops to go, then I’m having snack time! 🍌

That’s your cue too — time to plan some snacks and chats! Ask the people you’re with what their favourite story has been so far, or maybe a name they spotted that made them smile. 💬

Right! Let’s meet one of the coolest women in Swansea history…

🖊️ Her name was Ann Julia Kemble (fancy, right?), but you might know her as Ann of Swansea — the name she used when she became a famous author.

Ann was a bit of a trailblazer! She travelled all the way to America, wrote the first known opera libretto by a woman there (yep, she actually wrote an OPERA!), and then came back to Swansea to keep writing books and poems full of drama, mystery, and clever twists. 🎭📚

She even ran a posh bathing house by the sea — kind of like a spa for very fancy folks. But behind the scenes, she was writing like a whirlwind.

Life wasn’t always easy for Ann. But she never gave up, never stopped dreaming — and her imagination made her one of the first famous women writers in Wales.

And guess what? You can still visit the spot where she’s remembered! There’s a shiny blue plaque for her by the beach, near Swansea Bay and the Civic Centre. Go take a look one day and say, “Hey Ann! You rocked!” 💙

💬 STAMP IDEA: Draw a sparkly pen with a blue plaque about Ann!

OK Time Traveller — we’ve reached the last stop on our big adventure. It’s a story about bravery, community, and bouncing back when the world goes bang…

Let’s WHOOSH into the story of The Irish Connection and The Blitz!
